FAQs
What’s your sweet spot?
While I’ve touched nearly all aspects of PR and communications, my expertise is best applied in the strategic planning and messaging phase — crafting the narrative and developing the overarching strategies to help move your business forward.
That said, I’ve worked in nearly all aspects of PR and communications. I can either execute this work or tap into my extensive network of marketing partners, most notably those in the Kindship Group (visit www.kindshipgroup.com for more details).
Why work with you vs. an agency?
Working with me means you get a senior-level person with 25+ years of experience dedicated to your business. I proactively and frequently offer a broad strategic perspective, versus only focusing on a specific function. I bring in partners, such as Kindship Group, www.kindship.com, as needed to support an integrated approach to our work together.
How can we set ourselves up for success from the start?
My most successful client relationships define what success looks like from the beginning. Among the first questions I ask are, “What does a successful partnership look like?” followed by, “What’s the best way for us to keep each other accountable on our path to success?”
The most successful clients I’ve had work in true partnership. Part of this means that I have a consistent point person available for information or discussion. This way, I’m able to operate as an extension of your team and stay up to speed on the dynamics of your business.
After initial time spent getting to know each other and your business, a weekly or bi-weekly, 15-20 minute check-in is ideal.
You seem food- and gardening-focused, but that’s not my business. Should we still work together?
I’ve spent most of my career working on behalf of sustainable food businesses. That said, I’m inspired to work with and have experience in a wide range of industries that share a common thread: a desire to make lives and our planet better.
How can we measure impact + results?
As part of our start-up discussions, we’ll establish benchmarks, check-points and measures for success.
Typically, it takes a consistent, repetitive effort (like most things!) before positive results are seen. It can take anywhere from six months to a few years to establish momentum with your strategic communications program. Much also depends upon your individual story and budget..
I just want some media hits and I can’t afford you. What should I do?
I recommend working with a media relations specialist who’ll charge hourly. I don’t work this way because unless outreach is conducted in a strategic manner, it’s not an approach that offers long-term results or client satisfaction. I know this from experience. Successful efforts take time and are sustained over time. That said, I’m still happy to chat with you at no charge for 30 minutes about how PR could help your business.
